Recommended Summer Reading for 2009

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Reading is a key to success in school for students of all ages.  Children who
are good readers find it easier to do well in other subjects, because so much
of learning depends on the ability to read.  From history to science to
geography to math word problems, reading is an important part of learning in
every school subject.

Outside of school, reading can open doors to a world of pleasure and
enjoyment.  Children who enjoy reading can find books that will help them
travel through time and space.  Through books, you can have all sorts of
adventures – you can experience an earthquake, run for president, hang out
with fairy folk and dolphins, travel to ancient Egypt, run the Iditarod, and
much more.  And the best thing about summer reading is you can choose
whichever books you want to read!

The teachers at the Luther Elementary School have compiled a list of
books for your child’s summer reading pleasure.  We encourage each student
to read a minimum of 2 chapter books appropriate for their grade level on the list.

Please initial each book that your child chose to read this summer.  Then, attach it to the signed Parent Pledge Sheet.  Return both sheets to Luther School at the beginning of the school year.  Additional books that are read during the summer can be recorded on an attached sheet of paper.

Thank you, and happy reading!
