March is Arts in Education month!
But, in OUR schools, we celebrate it all year long. Our 5th graders have recently completed a combined Art/Science project where they created a 3/D representation in Plastercraft® of a volcano and surrounding land areas. Using common household items, students and teachers were able to see the chemical reaction when we "errupted" the volcanos.
Also grade 5 students spent considerable time working and studying Picasso and his cubistic style, while working with rulers and measurements to design, identify and use various quadrilateral shapes and assorted angles as a math tie in.
Using everyday tools such as rulers and focusing on measurements have also been figuring prominently in our 3rd and 4th grade student lessons as well. We are, and have been, studying other cultures in our paper work such as Mexican weavings, God's Eyes, Chinese calligraphy and graphics. We have lots more to come, too!

The Joseph G. Luther School Community of administrators, staff, parents and community members work collaboratively to provide a safe, healthy and accepting educational environment where each student is valued and can reach their fullest potential regardless of ability. While at the Luther School, students grow and develop an inner standard of excellence in academic achievement and social interactions that is fostered by a standards-based curriculum in the content areas, individual effort and the reflective, high level instruction that is provided by their teachers and assistants. Students leaving the Joseph G. Luther School are well prepared for their junior high years.
