Dear Luther School community,

We are very fortunate to have added a new position to Luther School, Reading Specialist, that has been filled by Dr. Jessica Hedges.  Dr. Hedges will also serve as the elementary schools’ Literacy Coach. This new position will allow us to better meet the needs of struggling readers.  I am also happy to announce that Mrs. Kelsey Martins has been hired to fill Mr. Luciano’s previous position and will be teaching writing and small group math.  Mr. Luciano will be replacing Mrs. Sutherland as our grade 5 Social Studies and Science Teacher.  Dr. Tammy Greene has been hired as our new Computer Teacher replacing Mrs. Worcester who retired at the end of  last school year.

I hope students have enjoyed their Summer Reading books.  A reminder that students should bring their Summer Reading book with the completed assignment to school on the first day.  Summer Reading assignments can be found on the school’s website at www.luther.swanseaschools.org

The Luther School Open House will take place on September 12th beginning at 6:00 p.m. with a school-wide meeting in the gym for all parents and staff.  Following this meeting, parents will then meet with their child’s homeroom teacher to hear information about the upcoming school year.

This year’s Scholastic Book Fair will take place September 11th-14th. Students will be receiving more information from their homeroom teacher when school begins.  Parents will have the opportunity to attend the book fair during our open house on September 12th.  We are currently seeking volunteers to help run our book fair, please email me if interested.

Parent representatives are needed for the school council.  The school council’s primary responsibility is developing the school improvement plan.  Elections will be held during our open house on September 12th.  School council meetings will take place on the first Monday of each month from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. starting in October.  Interested parents must email me prior to September 12th.

Please see below for our Summer Reading information:
